Resolutions and Memorials
received by the March 21, 2009 deadline
will appear in on-line, pre-assembly publication
Our Oregon Synod Reference and Counsel Committee will make every effort to work with the authors of resolutions to see that they are in a proper format. Resolutions and Memorials received by the March 21, 2009 deadline will appear in on-line, pre-assembly publications.
Resolutions or Memorials
received after our March 21, 2009 deadline
Resolutions or Memorials received after our March 21, 2009 deadline , including during the Assembly itself, will not be considered by the Assembly unless 2/3 of the Reference and Counsel Committee or the Synod Council determine that the resolution is either 1) of overriding importance, or 2) addresses a previously accepted resolution. This practice is in accordance with our generally accepted rules for the organization of a Synod Assembly.
Request for an extension
This year only , because of the relatively short time between the release of the ELCA Sexuality Statement Final Draft with implementing resolutions, and the deadline for submission of resolutions for our synod, the following exception will be considered: If you wish to submit a resolution or memorial relative to the ELCA Sexuality Statement or implementing resolutions and you desire an extension for doing so your request for such an extension must be made prior to the March 21, 2009 deadline. This request should be made to our Reference and Council chair, Pastor David Nagler of Nativity Lutheran Church in Bend, Oregon. If your need for an extension is judged to be justifiable a short extension may be granted as authorized by the Synod Council. However, this privilege is not to be assumed. Our synod has a full month between the release of the ELCA Sexuality Statement and implementing resolutions and our deadline for submission of resolutions or memorials. Please attend to these dates in a responsible manner.
In fairness to all concerned, the understandings laid out here will be followed rigorously. Please plan ahead and contact the synod office, or Pastor David Nagler, if you need help with Resolutions or Memorials. Thank you.
