May 13, 2010
Dear Partners in Ministry,
Our May 28-30, 2010 Synod Assembly will be at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion in Portland this year. Please give the information here your careful attention.
I am sure you all have your voting members elected and registered by now. If not, details are at the borrom of the column to the right. We're looking forward to seein you all.
You will find here a timeline which we have followed moving towards the Assembly. As our guidelines for the writing of Resolutions and Memorials and our timeline indicate the deadline for Resolutions and Memorials has passed. Resoltuions or Memorials submitted from the floor of the Assembly must now be approved by 2/3 of the Reference and Counsel Committee or the Synod Council, and be of either 1) of overriding importance, or 2) addressesi a previously accepted resolution. This practice is in accordance with our generally accepted rules for the organization of a Synod Assembly. Please attend to these dates in a responsible mannnger.
Nominations information is included here. Please look to see what positions are open for synod council personnel, PLU Corporation Delegates, and others. Of special importance this year will be the election of Voting Members to the 2011 Churchwide Assembly. Please give prayerful consideration to this work as we wish to lift up able and creative leaders. A sample nomination from is included.
Finally, please note that we will be offering Come to the Feast scholarships again this year to help defray costs for our smallest congregations. We have expanded the program so that the 15% of the smallest congregations budget wise will have the registration fee for their lay voting members waived and the next smallest 15% of congregations will be granted a registration waiver for one lay voting member. Qualifying congregations are listed here.
We are VERY excited to have Sara Miles as our keynote speaker this year!! Saturday morning, May 29, our Assembly is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. This means your members and friends are welcome to join us ih hearing from Sara. This is a wonderful opportunity, Please spread the word.
