Oregon Synod Assembly: April 27-29, 2012 - Sunriver Resort, Sunriver, OR

 Welcome to our post-Oregon Synod Assembly page. We have a wonderful time in Sunriver this year and want to share it with you. We enjoy worship, Bible study, business and lots of extras. We are glad to have you enjoy in part what many of us were privileged to share in full.

Worship:

Worship is front and central at our Assemblies. To the left is our opening sermon given by the Rev. Nancy Green of Sunriver Christian Fellow-ship. To the right is our closing sermon given by Bp. Dave Brauer-Rieke. Both videos have feature music attached.

New this year was our 'artist in residence' Sandra Roumagoux. She brought six wonderful paintings to share with us in a show called "Hope and Holiness." One painting, "King's Valley," was donated by Sandy for auction, the poceeds from its sale going to benefit the Believe! Sandra shows at the Blackfish Gallery in Portland.

To the right is the Rev. Albert Starr, Jr., Director of African Descent Ministries for the ELCA. Rev. Staff shared greeting and news of the ministries we all share as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.


Assembly Business:   (Pleae download the following information as desired. Blue words are live links.) 

Resolutions: Two resolutions were passed by the Assembly. Resolution #2, "Fostering Parhership with Ethnic Mnistries in the Oregon Synod" encourages congregations to seek out, learn from and help support our ELCA ethnic ministries throughout the synod. Resolution #3, "Consultation and Collaboration with Congregations Facing Decline" calls on the Synod Council and Staff to develop benchmark indicators for congregational health to be presented at the 2013 Assembly, and to be used for conversation with congregations facing declining capacity or concerns around sustainability.

Elections: The Assembly elected leaders to a variety of synod positions, including Synod Council, PLU Corporate Board Representatives, 2013 Churchwide Assembly Voting Members, and individuals for a variety of synod committees.

Synod Constitution Changes: Synod Constitution and Bylaw channges were radified by the Assembly approving changes in Nomination and Elction processes, structuring of clusters, committee structures for the synod and the appointment of deans.

Budgets: The 2012 budgets for the Synod and Endowment Committee were passed without amendment.
