Synod Council

Our Synod Council is made up of both lay and clergy members. Terms are three years and may be renewed once. Some Council positions are filled by individual clusters and other positions are "at large," open to nomination from anyone in the synod. In every case we are looking for council members with a heart for the Lord, who are creative and hardworking, who will be in conversation with church members around them and their community, who are flexible and creative, trusting and hopeful. Council members have three meetings a year and the opportunity to serve with sub-committees or task groups between meetings. Positions being filled this year are:

  • Vice President: The vice president must be a lay person
  • Secretary: The secretary may be either a lay person or clergy
  • Blue Mountain Cluster Lay Female Position: Only active members of Blue Mountain Cluster congregations may be nominated for this position.

The following positions will be filled this year:

  • Lay Position: This position is open to any lay person who is a member of an Oregon Synod congregation.

Discipline Committee

The Discipline Committee is comprised of 12 individuals, six clergy and six lay. Terms are six years without consecutive reelection. The committee is called into session only if there is a serious discipline matter around misconduct of an Oregon Synod rostered leader or congregation, a matter that has not been resolved through other channels. Mature, prayerful individuals who are able to hold themselves to the highest standard of confidentiality, care, and clarity are sought for this committee. The following positions will be filled this year:

  • Female Position: Two positions are open to any female lay or clergy person who is a member of an Oregon Synod congregation. Nominations may be made by any active member of any Oregon Synod congregation.
