This event was co-sponsored by The Episcopal Diocese of Oregon and the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Millennium Development Goals In 2000 leaders from 191 nations - including the United States - agreed to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015. They committed themselves and their nations to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger. 2. Achieve universal primary education. 3. Promote gender equality and empower women. 4. Reduce child mortality. 5. Improve maternal health. 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. 7. Ensure environmental sustainability. 8. Create a global partnership for development with targets. If the world meets the MDGs, more than 500 million people will be lifted out of extreme poverty and more than 300 million will no longer be hungry.
