Assistant to the Bishop
Susan Kintner
Pastor Susan Kintner began her role as Assistant to the Bishop on November 1, 2007. Pastor Kintner was baptized January 10, 1954, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Angeles, WA. In this same parish she later affirmed her baptismal vows. Kintner was ordained in 1980. She graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a B.A. in Religion and European History. She earned her M.Div. at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1980. The Graduate Theological Union of which PLTS is a member seminary, provided classroom interaction with other main-line denominations: Episcopalian, American Baptist, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, and Unitarian, as well as three Roman Catholic communities: Franciscan, Dominican, and Jesuit. She learned that on the West Coast especially, Christians must work together.
She has served three congregations: Grace, Palo Alto, California; St. Luke, Portland; and St. Andrew, Beaverton. Pastoral care and spirituality have been her primary passions in ministry. She has three years of experience as a hospital chaplain. The conversation of health and faith is an important one to her.
Susan and John Reiser were married in 1984. They have two children, a son who is high school junior and a daughter in eighth grade. She is an avid reader, bird watcher, and bread baker.
