The Oregon Synod is involved in trying to make a difference through mission work: acting for peace and justice, overcoming racism and sexism, helping out in the community and working together to create greater unity in the church. The Oregon Synod, ELCA's goal is to reach those inside and outside our church communities. Our goal is not only to extend our hand to those in need, but to spread Jesus' message of love your neighbor by actions, by demonstrations of his love, by showing how Jesus can work through people. This ministry is what Jesus asked us to do when he talked with his disciples, when he fed the thousands, when he died on the cross. The goal of every church is embodied in their outreach of their own community and of the world wide community.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, through a partnership of church-wide, synod, and social ministry organizations, supports state public policy advocacy offices.
These ministries represent the church in advocating at the state government level with and on behalf of those without economic or political power. These offices advocate for issues and not for particular candidates.
Approximately 32% of state office work is directed to hunger-related causes such as food and nutrition, shelter and affordable housing, environmental stewardship and justice, employment and income, and access to preventative and primary health care.
