US Farm Bill
The ELCA Washington Office has a major legislative priority relating to global poverty. That priority is the U.S. Farm Bill. Current U.S. commodity subsidies encourage U.S. farmers to produce more by guaranteeing that they will receive a set price for their crops. These price supports also allow U.S. commodities to be sold at artificially low prices on the world market, thereby undercutting small farmers in developing countries who are among the world's poorest people. (Learn more about the Farm Bill.)
Send A Postcard to Congress
Remind your members of Congress that poverty affects people close to home...and that they have the opportunity and responsibility to make key changes to the Farm Bill that will help hungry people. Write your message on a postcard from your community and send it to your Senator/Representative's local office. Click here for more ideas.
Senator Smith and Wyden have been very supportive of the Farm Bill.
Mail your postcards to:
Senator Smith: 121 Salmon Street, Suite 1250, Portland, OR 97204
Senator Wyden: 700 NE Multnomah, Suite 320, Portland, OR 97232

When a request to repeat an event happens this occurrence will be decided upon on an individual basis.
