Beautiful Advent and Christmas Music
St. Olaf Christmas Festival Simulcast
Five locations in Oregon (see below)
1:00 pm
The New York Times International Datebook lists the St. Olaf Christmas Festival as one of the top five significant global holiday events. The St. Olaf Christmas Festival, a worship service of hymns, carols, choral works, and orchestral selections that celebrates the birth of Christ, is one of the oldest musical celebrations of Christmas in the United States. The festival features more than 500 musicians who are members of five choirs and the St. Olaf Orchestra. Each group performs individually and as part of a mass ensemble.
Instead of flying or driving 1426 miles to the campus, the festival is coming to us this year. For the first time, the St. Olaf Christmas Festival will be simulcast in high definition to over 120 locations throughout the United States. There will be five locations in Oregon: the Cedar Hills Crossing 16 in Beaverton, the Lloyd Center 10 Cinema on the eastside of downtown Portland, the Old Mill Stadium 16 in Bend, Tinseltown in Medford, and Cinemark 17 in Springfield. The event starts at 1pm and the actual concert begins at 1:30 pm PST. The event is about two hours long with no intermission.
On November 2nd, you will be able to purchase tickets by ordering them via the St. Olaf College website: www.stolaf.edu. The $20 cost covers the expense of the simulcast. This activity would be a great way for young people to learn about a Lutheran college, as well as a great activity for adults to get into the holiday spirit. You’ll need to provide your own lefse and lutefisk and snowflake sweater. Uff da!
